1 Visconti Ragtime “65” special Fountain Pen Hospital 2011 edition. Created for FPH’s 65th anniversary. Gorgeous blue and green metal-flake cap and barrel with gold-tone trim. On the pocket clip is 1946-2011 , 19-65, with a big “65” right in the middle. I suspect this pen is 19 out of 65 manufactured. Gold-plated section. Fountain Pen Hospital is inscribed on the bottom pocket clip band. Medium electroplated nib. Remove blind cap to access piston. Pen appears to have been dipped only. No trace of ink in the pen. A scrumptious piece………….…………………………………………………..$275
Not Shown: Visconti original Ragtime (1990s). Main visual difference is no split cap band: cap band is at cap lip and tapers to meet the barrel. Pen is green and dark celluloid, swirls like pen shown, but no hints of blue. No metal flake in the green either. Pen was dipped. Filled it with water, no traces of ink other than dipped. 18K monotone nib. Near Mint. Boxes and papers…………………………………………………$350
2-4 Opera Club Collection Trio: Visconti called this color Honey Almond, maybe the most striking of the four colors offered (the others being Typhoon blue, Summertime Yellow, and Black). Per Visconti, this is a “square pen with rounded corners! Each colored model is hand carved from a block of luxurious celluloid, laminated in layers to provide a glittering effect.” Fountain pen and roller ball have threaded caps rather than magnetic closures (which is what I prefer) and are mint/near mint. Dipped, but not a trace of ink in the pen. 14K gold Fine two-tone nib. Cartridge/converter fill. Ballpoint and roller ball pen also mint/near mint. Fountain pen………$450 Roller ball………..$275 Ballpoint………………..$225
5 Manhattan roller ball pen in blue celluloid. This is the original pen that came out in the mid 1990s. Difficult to find color. Other colors were red and green. Made from celluloid with ringed body and cap reminiscent of Parker’s Vacuumatic. Stepped end cap similar to Waterman’s celluloid No. 7 back in the 1930s. Pen appears to be mint, but we’ll call it Mint/near mint………………………..……$375
Not shown: Manhattan fountain pen in blue celluloid (mid 1990s). Three colors available were blue, red, and green. Made from celluloid and reminiscent of Parker’s Vacuumatic. Stepped end cap like Waterman’s celluloid No. 7 back in the 1930s. Pen is mint. Not a trace of ink. Fine 18K monotone nib. With boxes and papers………………………….$525
6 Manhattan fountain pen in green celluloid. I dipped the pen and filled it with water. Not a trace of ink. Pen is mint. High volume piston filler. Broad 18K monotone nib. With boxes and papers..…… $525
7 Visconti Homo Sapien. Back in 2010, I interviewed Dante Del Vecchio for the Spring 2010 issue of Stylus magazine to introduce the Homo Sapien, a pen made from lava from Mt. Etna. Trim is bronze. It has a bayonet closure system and a plated palladium nib. The pen has so many interesting and novel features I had to get one, and I ultimately ended up with three. Many versions have been made since, but this is the original. Medium nib, piston fill. I think I only dipped this one. Near mint………..$650
8 Visconti Voyager in lapis blue. This pen was made from a solid block of celluloid. 18K Fine two-tone nib. Piston fill. Excellent + condition……………………………………………$675
